Weekly Android News Recap

This past week has seen some huge releases and reveals for Android and various Android based smartphone manufacturers. Whether these releases be a new smartphone concept or a new skin for an app, it all matters in the world of Android. So, lets get started:



- Blackberry has announced a new Android powered smartphone, the DTEK60. This smartphone packs a 5.5" screen with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. Accompanying that is a quad core Snapdragon 820 clocked at 2.15GHz and 1.6GHz, 4GB of RAM, a 3000mah Li-Ion battery, a 21MP rear camera capable of recording video up to 2160p and a 8MP selfie camera capable of 1080p video. Following this is a micro SD card slot that can hold a SD card of up to 256GB storage capacity, 32GB of internal storage and to top it off the phone will run Android marshmallow (6.0) out of the box. The DTEK60 is avaliable to buy right now on Blackberries official store site for the price of £475 Sim-free.

- Xiaomi has announced a concept phone, that will reportedly go on sale to the public,that has a near border-less display. Rocking an impressive 91.3% display to border percentage on the front of the device. The Mi MIX will have a massive 6.4" display with a resolution of 2040x1080 pixels, and a Snapdragon 821. This phone will have varying storage options, a 128GB version that features 4GB of RAM, and a 256GB version that will come with 6GB of RAM. The rear camera is a 16MP sensor capable of recording 4k video and the selfie camera will be a 5MP sensor. The whole phone is powered by a whopping 4400mAh battery. A release date is yet to be confirmed and specific details, i.e. speed of the processor are not yet revealed.

- The Google Messenger app has had an overhaul in terms of design. 
The app icon has now changed to a circular icon, and the message feed now looks very similar to that of Google allo.

- The Google pixel phone has been released (20th October) and has been, so far, a success. Google says that the sales and pre-orders have exceeded their predictions and so this is causing delays in deliveries for some people. 
Reviewers seemed to be very impressed with the Pixel, continuously praising its all day battery life and the lightning fast performance on both devices.
