Reliance Jio extends free data and voice calls till March 2017

Earlier there were rumors that Reliance Jio will extend it free services till March 31, 2017. Now it has been made official. The announcement was made by RIL's Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani at an event in Mumbai today.

The extended offer is called "Happy New Year" and new users signing up from December 4, will be able to enjoy free data, voice & video calling, and access to Jio's suite of apps till March 31 2017. Existing users under Jio Welcome offer will also get the three month extension as they will be automatically migrated to "Happy New Year" offer from January 1.

However, under the new offer, the daily FUP (fair-usage-policy) data limit has been reduced to 1GB, compared to 4GB on the Welcome Offer, post which you'll get reduced speeds of 128kbps. Explaining the FUP cut down, Jio says that over 80 percent of users use up to 1GB data per day, while the remaining 20 percent users consume disproportionately high data creating poor experience for the majority. The FUP of 1GB will ensure everyone gets fair share of Jio's capacity.
