Moto E3 Power will not get Android Nougat

Motorola launched the Moto E3 Power (E3) running Android Marshmallow last year and Owners who are eagerly waiting for the Nougat update to hit their device, there's some bad news.

According to Motorola's support website, the company has no plans to upgrade Moto E3 Power to Android Nougat, and mentions it will remain on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Considering the phone is just five months old, it's a huge disappointment for Moto E3 Power (and E3) users.

The Moto E3 Power was the most affordable smartphone from Moto last year, priced at just Rs. 7,999. It offered decent specs like 5-inch HD display, MediaTek MT6735) processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, microSD card slot, 8MP/5MP camera, 4G LTE, dual-SIM slots and 3500mAh battery.  It also had a splash-proof body and a nano-coating on the outside and inside making the device water-repelent. (E3 had 1GB RAM + 2800mAh battery).

Interestingly, Moto G4 Play, which offers the exact same specs, but ships with Qualcomm chip (and smaller battery, 2800mAh), will get Android Nougat in the near future. One of the reason the Moto E3 Power (and Moto E3) could be the processor, which do not meet the requirements to support Nougat. However, the actual reason behind Moto E3 Power not getting Nougat is still not known.

The same was the case with Moto E second generation. It shipped with Android Lollipop and was not included in the list of devices to get Android Marshmallow. Following criticisms, as the phone was not even a year older, Motorola finally updated its support page, and added Moto E second gen to the  list of eligible devices for Marshmallow update, and pushed the update later.
