Unlike The Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P Hasn't Been Treated To Fingerprint Gestures

Google had started rolling out the beta build of Nougat 7.1.2 for the Nexus 6P just a few hours back. Nexus 6P's 2015 compatriot, the Nexus 5X, had been updated to Android 7.1.2 last month.

In what seems like an unfair treatment, the Nougat 7.1.2 beta build for the Nexus 6P doesn't include the feature of fingerprint gestures, although the Nexus 5X did get the feature through the Android 7.1.2 beta update last month. Google had stated in November that it won't be bringing the fingerprint gesture feature to the Nexus 5X/6P, a feature which was present in the Google Pixel and Pixel XL. Google had pointed out the lack of certain hardware in the Nexus 5X/6P as the reason for the incompatibility of the feature with the Nexus duo. However when a Redditor had confronted Google with the fact that both the Nexus and the Pixel devices had the same fingerprint scanner - OneTouch FPC1025, Google said that they are "evaluating" a firmware update to add the feature to the Nexus devices.

Using fingerprint gestures, users can use swipe gestures on the fingerprint scanner to navigate to the notification and quick settings panel.

What is Google's excuse this time still remains to be seen. However it is probable that Google might add the feature to the Nexus 6P in the next beta build. It is also uncertain whether the features introduced in the beta builds will make their way to the final stable build or not. The stable update of Nougat 7.1.2 is slated to be rolled out in the coming months. Let's hope that we will see the fingerprint gestures in the stable build of Android 7.1.2. If you are still eager to get your hands on this feature, you can make use of the app Fingerprint Quick Actions. Your device should be rooted to use this application.
