Google Go is a search app designed to work on slow connections

Google today introduced Android Oreo (Go Edition) designed for low-end devices with less than 1GB RAM. The search giant also optimized its services such as Assistant, YouTube, Maps, Gmail, Google Play and more to support the light-weight operating system.

In addition, Google announced Google Go a lite version of its Search app as well. Back in March the app was being tested in Indonesia, but is now available for India as well. The app will come pre-installed on Android Oreo (Go Edition) devices, while others can install it from Google Play (Link).

Much like every lite version apps, Google Go is designed to run on slow connection and smartphones with low space. It weighs at just 5MB and the search results are optimized to save up to 40 percent data.

The Google Go app offers tap-first interface with several quick action buttons for search, voice search, images, GIFs, YouTube, Weather, Translation and Maps and more so that first time smartphone users can quickly find what they are looking for in the web.

Apart from Google services, users can also access Facebook, CricBuzz and Instagram directly within the app. The app also offers smart suggestions and trending topics of the web. Users will also be able to switch and see answers in another languages, for instance between Hindi and English.

In a blog post Google said "Google Go is tailor-made for the millions of people in those countries coming online for the first time. It’s simple to use and fast even on entry level devices and spotty connections, making discovering, sharing and finding content easier and more reliable."
