Android 8.1 Oreo Beta Released For Nokia 2

HMD's CPO Juho Sarvikas had confirmed last year that the Nokia 2 will be directly updated to Oreo 8.1. At the time of the initiation of Oreo beta program for the Nokia 3, Sarvikas had said that the beta testing of Oreo for the Nokia 2 would begin within a couple of weeks. HMD has now released an Android 8.1 beta for the low-end Nokia 2.

Being a cheap smartphone, the Nokia 2 has less powerful internals. It has a 1GB RAM and the Snapdragon 212. With the Oreo update, HMD is aiming to refine the performance of the smartphone. For that memory optimizations from Android Go have been integrated. Android Go is Google's stripped down version of Android for low-end smartphones. The memory optimizations from Go, therefore, will help in enhancing the performance of the Nokia 2.

The enrollment process for the beta program is pretty straightforward. You have to go to the website of Nokia Beta Lab, sign up your device by entering the IMEI number, and you will soon receive an OTA update of the beta build. The beta users will also receive the stable update.

The beta program for Nokia phones which have received the Oreo update has lasted for a month or so. If that is anything to go by, the Nokia 2 should get the stable Android 8.1 update by the end of July.
