OnePlus 6T Confirmed To Have In-Display Fingerprint Sensor, Might Be Launched On October 17

According to leaks, the OnePlus 6T will feature triple rear cameras and a 'waterdrop' notch

OnePlus has been releasing smartphones on a semi-annual release basis since the OnePlus 3T. It has been almost four months since the release of the OnePlus 6, so OnePlus is gearing up for the release of the 6T. Before the launch of the OP6, OnePlus divulged several features of the device, and now the company is doing the same for the upcoming OP6T.

In an email to CNET, OnePlus confirmed that the OP6T will feature a fingerprint scanner under the display. The company said that it originally aimed to bring the in-display fingerprint sensor with the OnePlus 5T, however, the technology then wasn't "mature enough to meet [OnePlus'] standards for delivering a fast and smooth user experience".

Talking about the move to in-display fingerprint scanners, OnePlus said:

We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action. By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them.

The OnePlus 6T will be slightly thicker (0.45mm to be precise) than its predecessor because of the rearrangement that had to be done to accommodate the fingerprint sensor underneath the display. OnePlus calls the in-display fingerprint sensor technology as 'fingerprint-on-display' (or FOD for short). The company even shared a screenshot of the 6T's lock screen.

The OnePlus 6T is believed to be launched in October, and the date in the screenshot of the lock screen might be indicative of that. Whether the 6T will be launched on October 17 remains to be seen. We will keep you updated.
