VAIO Reveals 'VAIO Z' and 'VAIO Z Canvas' Hybrid Laptops


Last year Sony sold its VAIO (now an independent company) line of laptops to an investment company in Japan to focus more on smartphones and tablets.

Now Vaio is back with two new hybrid laptops dubbed VAIO Z and VAIO Z Canvas (minus the SONY logo), which can be turned into tablets. Both runs Windows 8.1 OS.

The VAIO Z has an aluminium carbon shell body and features a 'multiflip' mode that lets you switch between a tablet slate and a laptop. It  features 13.3-inch screen and will be powered by fifth-gen Intel Core i7 processor paired with upto 16GB DDR3 RAM and houses upto 256GB of SSD storage. It comes with an impressive battery life that can last for 15.5 hours. It also has a power-saving display mode that can save power consumption by 40 percent. The VAIO Z is 16.8mm thick and weighs just 2.95 pounds.


On the other hand, VAIO Z Canvas features a detachable keyboard to convert it into a tablet. It features Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB DDR3 RAM and 256GB SSD storage. It comes with a digitiser stylus.

The VAIO Z is priced at 190,000 yen ($1600 | Rs. 100,000) and is already on sale in Japan while the pricing and a details of VAIO Z Canvas is not yet revealed. It is expected to go on sale in May.

The VAIO Z and VAIO Z Canvas are exclusive to Japan and there is no words on when it will be released for other markets.
