Microsoft's Office Lens now available for iPhone and Android

Microsoft has released Office Lens app for iPhone and Android handsets. The app was introduced to Windows Phone last year and was a massive success, its average rating based on 18,500 reviews is 4.6 out of 5.

Bringing this app to iOS and Android is signs of Microsoft's new strategy of making its best apps available for other platforms.

The Office Lens app turns your smartphone into a pocket scanner. Users can user it to trim, enhance and make pictures of receipts, business cards, menus, whiteboards or sticky notes and save it to OneNote or the gallery. You can also use the app to convert images to PDF, Word and PowerPoint files too.

Here are some of the features of the Office Lens app for iPhones

  • Recognizes the corners of a document and automatically crops, enhances and cleans up the image.
  • Identifies printed text with optical character recognition (OCR) so that you can search by key word for the image in OneNote or OneDrive.
  • Converts images of paper documents and whiteboard notes into Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and PDF files for easy editing and reformatting
  • Captures business cards and generates contacts you can add to your phone.
  • Inserts images to OneNote or OneDrive (as DOCX, PPTX, JPG or PDF format) and gives you options to save, export and share the image.
The Office Lens app is available for free at the Apple App store for iOS devices.

As for Android phones, it has been released as a preview. To sign up follow the steps below
    1. Go to Office Lens Android Preview in the Google+ community.
    2. Click Join community in the upper right-hand corner.
    3. Under About this community, click the Become a Tester link and then follow instructions on the page and then download the app.
