Lenovo's 'Smart Cast' phone beams a touchscreen onto any surface

Lenovo, at its Tech World event in Beijing, showcased a new pico-projecting smartphone concept called Smart Cast. The new Smart Cast is equipped with a built-in focus-free laser projector which can turn any surface into a touch screen.

The Smart Cast can be used to project a virtual touch screen on to a tablet to type with a virtual keyboard. The projector on the phone can be easily rotated. It can also be used to watch movies, for presentation and even play games like Fruit Ninja. This can be done by casting the contents on the wall and using hand gestures on the table. The gesture recognition software is then used to intercept actions like gesture recognition, clicking, sliding and multitouch.

Users can also project content on to the wall while viewing different content simultaneously on the smartphone screen. The Smart Cast has a built-in kick stand. Unfortunately Lenovo did not reveal the specs and availability details of the smartphone.
