Xiaomi Mi 4i to receive OTA update to fix overheating issues this week

The Xiaomi Mi 4i was launched last month at a dedicated event in India. The phone received great response in terms of sale but shortly after it was found to overheat. According to some users the phone would overheat up to 47 degree when doing heavy gaming and up to 41 degree on normal usage.

Jai Mani, Lead-Product Manager, Xiaomi India, in a statement addressing the issue said "We've heard from some Mi 4i users that their devices can get warm under strenuous conditions such as complex 3D gaming and benchmarking apps". "To address these concerns, we’ve optimized our thermal control algorithms to better regulate the temperature. The new thermal controls adjust frequency, voltage and the number of cores in use depending on the chipset temperature."

Last week, the company also tried to fix the issue via firmware update (Ver. 6.5.4.0 LXIMICD) offering optimization to improve performance and tweaks to the thermal control algorithms to resolve the overheating issues. The update was later suspended as users faced new software issues after updating.

Now, Xiaomi promises to release another OTA (over-the-air) update for Mi 4i users in India this week to fix the issue. A new OTA update (V6.5.5.0) will start rolling out this week with a fix for the overheating issue. Sadly, the exact time frame for the OTA update arrival was not revealed.
