Android 6.0 Marshmallow now running on 4.6 percent of active devices


Google has released the Android distribution data for the seven-day period ending April 4. These numbers were compiled from Android devices that accessed the Play Store.

The latest number reveals that the share of active devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow has doubled from 2.3 percent in March to 4.6 percent. This is the first time Google's latest OS has seen a big leap. These include Nexus devices, Android One phones, and some newer devices released in the market.

The big share belongs to Android Lollipop which is at 35.8 percent, but as compared to last month has seen a slight decrease by 0.3 (35.8 percent in March). Android 4.4 KitKat now stands at 34.3 percent, down by 0.9  percent, as compared to March's 33.4 percent. 

Android Jelly Bean also slid down to 21.3 percent from 22.3 percent in March, while Ice Cream Sandwhich went down to 2.2 percent from 2.3 percent. Gingerbread and Froyo remained unchanged and are still hanging at 2.6 percent and 0.1 percent.
