Moto Z Play with 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 625 SoC, Moto Mods support goes official


Motorola (owned by Lenovo) has introduced the first mid-range Moto Z series smartphone dubbed Moto Z Play. Similar to Moto Z/Moto Z Force, the Moto Z Play will also support Moto Mods add-on accessories. It will runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and have a fingerprint scanner at the back. However, it will have 3.5mm audio jack, which was not present in the Moto Z/Moto Z Force.

The Moto Z Play features 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass protection and is powered by octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor backed by Adreno 510 GPU and 3GB RAM. It will come in two storage variants – 32GB or 64GB. The storage is expandable via microSD card. (up to 2TB).

For photography, it gets 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, laser auto-focus, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF). For snapping selfies and video calling there's 5-megapixel front camera accompanied by LED flash.

Connectivity duties are handled by single nano-SIM/dual SIM slots, 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and USB Type-C port. It is fueled by 3510mAh battery with Turbo Charging technology. It also sports a water-repellent nano-coated body.

The Moto Z Play is priced at $499 (Rs. 30,000) and will be available globally starting in September. In the U.S the Moto Z Play will be available on Motorola.com, while Verizon will be offering Moto Z Play Droid Edition for $408 off-contract, or $17/month on-contract on September 8.
