HP's Z2 Mini desktop is a power-packed tiny workstation designed for CAD applications

HP has unveiled some interesting devices this year including the Elite X3 Windows 10 smartphone, the stylish Spectre 13 and Spectre x360 laptops, and two mini desktop PCs : the triangular shaped Pavillion Wave and the modular Elite Slice.

Joining the list is Z2 Mini, which HP claims is the world's first mini workstation designed for users in "CAD and other compute-intensive industries". HP says the Z2 Mini is twice as powerful as any commercial mini PC and has the ability to support six displays right out of the box.

The mini PC comes with the options of Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 or Xeon E3-1200v5 processor, support for up to 32GB RAM and 1.5TB M.2SSD storage. The graphics is handled by NVIDA Quadro M620 GPU.

Even though, HP's Z2 Mini packs powerful laptop class-hardware, it is not VR ready, as the NVIDIA GPU is not certified for use with the Oculus Rift or HTV Vive VR headsets.

Other features include, Ethernet port, DisplayPort (three in entry-level models, four in higher end models), 2 x USB Type-A ports for entry level model, and 2 x USB 3.1 Type-C ports on the higher end model.

It has an Octagon shape that measures about 8.5″ x 8.5″ x 2.3″ and weighs 2.4kg. The mini desktop can be mounted behind a monitor so it remains hidden.

The HP Z2 Mini will be available with Windows 10 Pro or Linux software. Prices start at $699 and will be available in December.
