WhatsApp extends support for BlackBerry, Nokia platform till June 2017

Back in February 2016, WhatsApp announced that it would discontinue its services for older OS including BB10, Symbian, and older version of iOS and Windows Phone by end on 2016, leaving many BlackBerry owners disappointed.

Now there is good news for WhatsApp users on BlackBerry platform. WhatsApp has extended support for BlackBerry platform till June 2017. Apart from BB OS, the deadline will be extended for Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 as well.
"We will soon be ending support for certain devices. On June 30, 2017, we will no longer support the following platforms: BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, and Nokia Symbian S60."
However, Android 2.1, Android 2.2, Windows 7 and iPhone 3GS or devices running iOS 6 won't be able to use WhatsApp at the beginning of 2017. Explaining the reason, whatsApp said:
"These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android running OS 2.3+, a Windows Phone 8+, or an iPhone running iOS 7+ before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp."
WhatsApp also says that currently there will be no option to transfer chat history between platforms, but it will provide the option to send chat history attached to an email, if requested by users.
