Xiaomi's Mi WiFi speaker can be controlled by voice


Amazon's Echo is a smart internet-connected speaker that can be controlled by voice. Google also has one smart speaker called Google Home. Joining the bandwagon, Xiaomi has introduced the Mi WiFi Speaker or Mi Internet Speaker in home country of China, that can also be controlled by voice.

Xiaomi says that the speaker can stream over 20 million songs from the web from China's major streaming services and play programs from over 1,500 radio stations of the mainland China. Users can also get access to about 200,000 storytelling stations and a database of 120 million audiobooks

It sports a rectangular shape  and boasts  a 4-speaker layout with two 2.5-inch sub-woofers for extra bass, and two '20-core' tweeters, along with vented bass-duct technology.

The speaker can be controlled via dedicated Mi Home app, or by voice by pressing the CH button on top. It is powered by cortex A9 processor and houses 8GB internal storage to play music offline. Apart from WiFi (802.11ac), the speaker can be connected to any device via Bluetooth, auxiliary 3.5mm audio input jack, USB 2.0 as well as DLNA. The speaker also functions as an alarm clock.

The Mi WiFi speaker measures 90 x 95 x 282mm, weighs 1.6 kg. It is now available in China for $399 (Rs. 4,000).
