Android Nougat hits 0.7 percent adoption, as Froyo retires

Android distribution numbers are out for the month of January 2017 and the big news is that Froyo, which was hanging on at 0.1 percent of devices for months has finally retired. This means it is now present on below 0.1 percent of active devices, which is the threshold needed to appear in Android distribution table.

Meanwhile, Google's latest Android flavor Nougat (7.0 and 7.1 combined) saw a slight growth and is running on 0.7 percent of active devices, up 0.3 percent from last month.

Android Marshmallow adoption has increased from 26.3 percent to 29.6 percent, an increase in 3.3 percent. Android Lollipop and KitKat saw a slight decrease. Lollipop (5.0 and 5.1) has gone down from 34 percent to 33.4 percent this month, while KitKat (4.4) is down to 22.6 percent from 24 percent share last month.

Jelly Bean (4.1-4.3) is at 11.6 percent, down from 12.8 percent in December. The other two out dated operating systems Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread are present in 1.1 percent and 1.0 percent of active devices.

According to the latest distribution there are more devices running the out-dated Lollipop, than Android Marshmallow.
