HTC U Ultra is official with secondary display, Android Nouagt


HTC is starting its new year by introducing its new U series of smartphones. Among the duo that was announced, the U Ultra is a flagship product packing top-end specs.

The main highlight of U Ultra is its secondary 2-inch touch display above the main screen, just like LG V20 that shows notifications, reminders, shortcuts to frequent contacts, music playback controls and more.

Design-wise, the U Ultra sports glass finish on back and front, and metal frame. The rear glass is fully curved at all four edges, and gets multi-layered color thanks to the unique process called optical spectrum hybrid deposition.

The U Ultra has a new Sense Companion software, which is powered by Artificial Intelligence to learn a users daily activity and offer intelligent suggestions. For instance it can learn your frequently used contacts and apps, and show their notifications on the secondary screen. Moreover it will also advise users to charge the phone, if schedule indicates that the phone may run out of fuel before bedtime.

The smartphone also comes with four low-power always-on microphones that respond to voice commands, and features biometric voice unlock and control features. It also skips the 3.5mm audio jack in favor of USB Type-C audio, similar to HTC Bolt and 10 Evo, and features a sonar-based technology called U-Sonic to deliver sounds as per user's listening preference.

Coming to the specs, the HTC U Ultra sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super LCD 5 display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection and has Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB RAM, and 64GB or 128GB internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card.

For photography, it gets 12MP f/1.8 aperture camera at the back with dual-tone LED flash, Laser AF, OIS and 4K video recording capability. For snapping selfies, there's 16MP f/2.0 aperture camera at the front.

Running Android Nougat, the HTC U Ultra includes a fingerprint scanner, and supports 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC and USB 3.1 Type-C for connectivity. A 3000mAh battery keeps the lights on.

The HTC U Ultra is priced at $750 (Rs. 51,000) and is up for pre-order from HTC.com. It will be available in Sapphire Blue, Cosmic Pink, Brillian Back and Ice White. There's also a premium model with Sapphire Glass and 128GB storage, and according to HTC Taiwan, it costs NT $ 28,900 ($911 | Rs. 62,000).
