Hugo Barra joins Facebook to lead its VR division


Xiaomi's former Global VP Hugo Barra who recently announced that he is leaving Xiaomi with plans to go back to Silicon Valley, will be heading Facebook's VR division.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Hugo Barra will be joining the social media giant to lead the company’s virtual reality efforts, including Oculus team. 

His title at Facebook will be vice president of virtual reality. The announcement was accompanied by an image of the two—Barra in China and Zuckerberg in California—meeting in virtual reality.

Zuckerberg said that Barra shares his belief that virtual and augmented reality will be the next major computing platform and Barra is going to help build that future. In reply, Barra said that he had is dream to work with VR and is looking forward to building the future of immersive technology with Facebook and Oculus team, and taking VR mainstream.
