Nokia's first Android smartphone gets official


After months of rumor and speculations, say hello to Nokia's much awaited comeback Android smartphone. HMD Global, the new home of Nokia has launched the first Nokia branded Android smartphone dubbed Nokia 6. Unfortunately, Nokia 6 will exclusive to China market for now.

The phone targeted at mid-range market is a mix of top-end and mid-range specs, but sports a premium design crafted out of aluminum. Regarding the design of Nokia 6, HMD Global says "It takes 55 minutes to machine a single Nokia 6 from a solid block of 6000 series aluminum. It then receives two separate anodising processes, taking over ten hours to complete, with each phone being polished no less than five times. The end result is an aluminum unibody with the highest level of visual and structural quality."



The Nokia 6 features 5.5-inch Full HD 2.5D curved glass display protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor backed by Adreno 430 GPU and 4GB RAM. On-board storage is 64GB, which can be further expanded via microSD card.

For photography, there's 16MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF and f/2.0 aperture. For selfies and video calling there's 8MP f/2.0 84-degree wide-angle front facing shooter.

The dual-SIM phone boots Android Nougat and supports 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, micro-USB ports (USB 2.0) and GPS for connectivity. A 3000mAh battery runs the show, which is rated to deliver up to 32 days of standby time, up to 18 hours of talk time and up to 22 hours of music playback.

There's also a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button, dual-speaker, smart dual amplifier chips (TFA9891) offering 6dB louder sound and support for the latest Dolby ATMOS standard.

The Nokia 6 will be available exclusively from JD.com in the first half of 2017 in China for CNY 1699 ($245 | Rs. 16,800) in Black color.
