Microsoft is reportedly working on Windows 10 Cloud OS to take on Google's ChromeOS.

Chromebooks are low-cost laptops running Google's ChromeOS aimed at the education market. Now it appears the Microsoft is working on ChromeOS competitor to step up in competition. References to the new operating system started appearing in recent Windows 10 test build.

According to a report from ZDNet, Microsoft's new ChromeOS competitor will be a simplified version of Windows 10 called Windows 10 Cloud that will only support unified Windows Platform (UWP) apps  from the Windows Store. In other words, it's a new version of Windows RT.

Windows RT was an ARM based operating system and ran apps built specifically for RT. The lack of support for more apps, led to its failure at going mainstream and was never updated to Windows 10.

The report further mentions that Windows 10 Cloud is designed to be a cheaper alternative to Microsoft's mainstream platform, and Microsoft will be able to load the new OS in low-cost affordable PCs to take on Chromebooks, which are very popular in the education market. The company could also bundle its services as default like Bing, Cortana, Microsoft Office and more with Windows 10 Cloud.

As of now it is not clear, when Windows 10 Cloud will be announced, but early reference in the Creators Update to Windows 10 suggests it could arrive as soon as April.
