Surface Laptop images leak ahead of Microsoft's education event

Microsoft will be hosting their #MicrosoftEdu event later today (7pm IST) in New York. The event focuses on education, and Microsoft is expected to introduce Windows 10 S (Windows 10 Cloud) and a new Surface Laptop, aimed at students, to take on Google's Chrome OS and Chromebook.

Now just few hours before the event kicks off, images of the new Surface Laptop and few details have leaked online courtesy of @h0x0d and Evan Blass.

According to the source, the Surface Laptop will sports 13.5-inch PixelSense display with 3.4 million pixels, which suggests the screen resolution will be Full HD. The laptop will include an Alcantara-covered keyboard, and run a lightweight version of Windows 10 called Windows 10 S, which is similar to Chrome OS running on Chromebooks. It will come in four hues – Platinum, Burgundy, Cobalt Blue and Graphite Gold. 

Unfortunately,  it's not clear what hardware the laptop will pack, but the leaked image show a regular USB port, mini DisplayPort, audio combo jack, SD card slot and Surface power connector. The Surface laptop will reportedly weigh 1.25kgs and will be 14.47mm thin at the back, and 9.9mm thin at the front.

Previous reports have suggested that Microsoft's Chromebook rival will packs basic specifications like quad-core processor, 4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage. Speaking of Windows 10 S, it is said to be Cloud-based platform which will work and load quicker. It will run only Unified Windows Platform apps (UWP) front the Windows Store and Win32 apps. The new OS is also expected to offer improved battery performance.

Chromebooks are doing very well in the education sector, and Microsoft will look forward to capture some of the share occupied by Chromebook with the new Surface Laptop. However, it will be interesting to see how much the laptop will cost and whether it will hit the global markets.
