Samsung Galaxy Note8 with 6.3-inch display, 6GB RAM, dual-camera gets official


After last years Galaxy Note7 disaster, Samsung is back with its latest Note phablet, the Galaxy Note8, a beefed up Galaxy S8+  boasting dual-cameras and productivity functions thanks to the S-Pen. The latest Note series device, brings major improvements over the Galaxy Note7 like a bezel-less design, same as the Galaxy S8. It also support Samsung's DeX platform for a desktop experience.

The Galaxy Note8 is the company's first smartphone to get dual-cameras. It has a pair of 12MP camera, with the main sensor housing f/1.7 aperture, dual-pixel auto-focus, and the other has f/2.4 aperture and telephoto-lens offering 2x optical zoom. Both camera have optical image stabilization. For advanced photo-taking, the phone’s Live Focus feature lets you control the depth of field by allowing you to adjust the bokeh effect in preview mode and after you take the photo. In Dual Capture mode, both rear cameras take two pictures simultaneously and allow you to save both images; one close-up shot from the telephoto lens and one wide-angle shot that shows the entire background.The selfie shooter at the front is an 8MP f/1.7 sensor.

The Galaxy Note8 flaunts a 6.3-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display, bearing a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels, and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. For performance, the U.S variant will utilize Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 Mobile platform, while the rest of the world will get home-grown Exynos 8895 processor. It packs 6GB RAM, and come with 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. The storage is also expandable via microSD card. It runs Android 7.1.1 out of the box.

Similar to Galaxy S8, the Galaxy Note8 comes with dedicated Bixby button, IP68 water and dust resistance, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, Iris scanner and heart rate monitor.Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, MST and USB Type-C 3.1. It is fueled by 3000mAh battery, and supports both wired and wireless charging.

The S Pen stylus is getting an upgrade with finer tip and improved pressure sensitivity. It now lets you share animated text or drawing across platform that support animated GIF. The Translate feature has also been improved, and now lets you quickly translate entire sentences in up to 71 languages, and instantly convert units and foreign currencies.

The Samsung Galaxy Note8 comes in four color options – Midnight Black, Maple Gold, Orchid Grey and Deep Sea Blue; and will hit the market mid-September globally. In the U.S, it is priced at $930 (Rs. 60,000) and will be up for pre-orders from August 24 through most carriers, and ship from September 15.
