Xiaomi's popular record-breaking budget smartphone, the Redmi Note has reached yet another milestone. The Chinese device maker claims that it has sold five million units of Redmi Note 4 in India within six months of launch between a period of January 23 to July 23 this year. It also said that Redmi Note 4 was the number one best selling smartphone in Q1 and Q2 in the country.

The Redmi Note 4 offers top-notch mid-range specs at an reasonable price. It features 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 625 processor, 13MP/5MP cameras, fingerprint scanner and 4100mAh battery. It ships with Android Marshmallow based MIUI 8, but MIUI 9 based Android Nougat is almost ready for the device. It is available in three variants ㅡ 2GB RAM/32GB storage at Rs. 9,999, 3GB RAM/32GB storage at Rs. 10,999 and 4GB RAM/64GB storage at Rs. 12,999.

To commemorate its latest milestone, Xiaomi has created what it says is the world's largest grain mosaic art spread across an are of 6,000 square feet and with 40,000kg of food grains at Thyagraj Stadium in New Delhi. The grain will be used to feed five lakh underprivileged people on Independence day, as part of Xiaomi's initiative to give back to the community.

Back in March, the company claimed to have sold over one million units of Redmi Note 4 within just 45 days of launch. Meanwhile, the company's most affordable offering, the Redmi 4 sales are going strong. In June, Xiaomi claimed to sell over one million units of the phone.

Thanks to the high-sales of Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4, Xiaomi was able to grab the second position in the Indian smartphone market in Q2, 2017, just behind Samsung.  Xiaomi also expanded its retail presence in India to target offline consumers by opening Mi Home stores in Bengaluru, and plans to open more.

At this pace, Xiaomi is most likely to to become the top smartphone brand in the country soon.

The company has already dropped hints for its next smartphone launch. Just recently Manu Jain, Xiaomi India Head, revealed that the company's next smartphone offering to the Indian market will have dual-camera, which is most likely to be the Mi 5X, and will launch next month.
