Xiaomi announces the affordable Redmi 5A in China

The Xiaomi Redmi 4 is no doubt one of the most popular affordable smartphone out there. That said, the company has announced its successor, the Redmi 5A. It brings only two changes.... in the software and battery department.

Out of changes mentioned, only the software is getting a big boost. The phone runs the latest Android Nougat based MIUI 9 (vs. Marshmallow based MIUI 8). And despite being a new model, the Redmi 5A packs 3000mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than Redmi 4A's 3120mAh battery. Otherwise the specs are same as Redmi 4A, but still impressive for the price it is being offered at.

The Redmi 5A comes with 5-inch HD display and is armed with Snapdragon 425 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, with microSD card support for storage expansion. It has 13MP f/2.2 PDAF assisted rear camera with an LED flash, and 5MP front shooter. It houses hybrid dual-SIM slots and supports 4G VoLTE. The fingerprint scanner is still not present.

Priced at CNY 600 (Rs. 6,000 | $91), the Redmi 5A is now available for purchase in China in Platinum Silver, Rose Gold and Champagne Gold color.
