Data-saving Twitter Lite app for Android expands to 24 new countries

Back in September this year, Twitter released a lite version of their Android app in Philippines to help save mobile data. Now it has expanded the availability to 24 more countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

Twitter Lite is now available in Algeria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Malaysia, Nigeria, Nepal, Panama, Peru, Serbia, El Salvador, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia, Tanzania, and Venezuela. Unfortunately, the app is yet to be released in India, but users can use Twitter Lite mobile site.

To recollect, the lite version of Twitter Android app is designed to work with slow internet connection and smartphones with low-end hardware. It supports 2G/3G networks and is compatible with device running Lollipop and up.

Twitter Lite has a very small download size of 3MB, compared to the regular 13MB size, and will consume 70 percent less data. Even though the app has "lite" moniker it still has all the basic functions of the regular Twitter app like breaking news, sports scores and entertainment update. It also offer timeline view, Notifications, explore tab, messages, polls and profile customization. However you get the option to disable all images and video loading using the data saver function.
