Google cracks down on non-lockscreen apps that show lockscreen ads

In-app advertisements are not uncommon these days, but there are some apps that infest ads on the lock screen. However, now Google is taking necessary steps to crack down such apps, and has implemented measures, which prohibits select apps from displaying ad on your phone's lock screen, unless the app is related to lock screen.

According to Google's updated developer monetisation page, "Unless the exclusive purpose of the app is that of a lockscreen, apps may not introduce ads or features that monetize the locked display of a device."

In simple words, developers of lockscreen apps can show ads on the lock screen. Others developers are not allowed to display ads on lock screen.

So if the app is a file manager, VPN or photo editor and has nothing to do with lock screen, the app cannot show lockscreen ads. If the app is exclusively designed to be used as lockscreen app, for instance lock screen widgets, wallpaper, can monetize the app by displaying ads.
