Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018), Galaxy A8+ (2018) goes official


Samsung has finally announced its 2018 edition of Galaxy A line up: Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018). These bring Galaxy S8/S8+'s premium metal & glass design and Infinity display at budget, which means they have very slim bezels and a display with 18:9 aspect ratio. 

The latest Galaxy A phones share the same specs, but are differentiated by RAM, display and battery. Also they are Samsung's first offering to boast dual selfie camera.

As for the specs, the Galaxy A8 (2018) feature 5.6-inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2220) Super AMOLED display and is equipped with octa-crore Exynos 7885 processor further aided by Mali G71 GPU and 4GB RAM. It comes in two storage variants: 32GB and 64GB, and the storage is expandable via microSD card. It packs 3000mAh battery.

The Galaxy A8+ (2018) on the other hand sports a bigger 6-inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2200 pixels) Super AMOLED display, and is equipped with the same octa-core Exynos 7885 processor. It comes in two RAM/storage variants: 4GB/32GB and 6GB/64GB. The storage is expandable via microSD card. It is fueled by 3500mAh battery.

For photography, the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) ship with 16MP f/1.7 primary camera assisted by an LED flash. On the front there's 16MP+8MP dual camera with f/1.9 aperture. The selfie camera offers portrait shots and Live Focus feature, that lets you adjust the bokeh effect before or after you snap a selfie. The front camera also have dedicated LED flash.

Both run Android 7.1.1 Nougat and support dual-SIMs, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and USB Type-C. They also support MST and NFC for Samsung Pay, as well as fast charging. The phones boast IP68 water and dust resistance rating, and the fingerprint scanner is placed at the back.

Coming to the pricing, the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) price start at 499 Euros ($588 | Rs. 38,000) and 599 Euros ($706 | Rs. 45,000) respectively in Europe. They come in Black, Orchid Grey, Gold and Blue hues, and will hit the market in January 2018.
