The startup says the device is designed to work gently and consistently, with support for styles such as knotless braids and box braids. Halo has also described the technology as a braid-assist system for professional stylists rather than a consumer gadget, at least in its initial rollout.

Braiding is widely recognized as both technically demanding and labor intensive, with complex styles sometimes taking up to 12 hours to complete.
