LG Display unveils new 5.5-inch QHD screen for the LG G4
LG Display has announced the launch of a 5.5-inch QHD IPS display panel for smartphones. The company also confirmed that the display will be used in LG's next flagship device LG G4 that is expected to be announced on April 28.
The 5.5-inch QHD display will offer richer and more accurate colors with a 120 percent color gamut. It offers a screen resolution of 1440x2560 pixels and 558 PPI (pixels per inch) pixel density.
It has a contrast ratio that is 50 percent higher than the standard QHD panels and the brightness has increased by 30 percent which will consume less power and makes it easier for users to view the smartphones dusplay in bright light conditions.
The display panel has slimmer design and features improved touch responsiveness using Advanced 'In-Cell touch technology (AIT) that embeds the touch sensor within the LCD. It also offers excellent touch sensitivity so that it can respond to touch commands even with water drops on screen.
The company is also touting a new photo-alignment technology that uses UV light to form a liquid crystal alignement layer in the display panel and delivers high contrast ratio by aligning liquid crystal evenly to reduce light leakage.
LG Display stated that it has started mass production of the new 5.5-inch QHC LCD panel and will be used in LG's next flagship device - the G4 which is expected to be announced on April 28.
