Sony unveils LED light bulb with built in speaker

Sony has unveiled an LED bulb with built-in Bluetooth speaker in Japan. It has a compact and attractive design and according to Sony, the speaker allows users to "play music in places where it's been difficult to put audio equipment before."

Sony's LED light bulb speaker has a regular screw ring that fits into any traditional light bulb socket that accepts screw bulb to get power. Sony has developed a translucent optical design that limits the shadow of the speaker and achieves wide light distribution. The speaker is placed in front of the bulb so that there is no shielding of the sound and users can experience clear sound.

The LED Light Bulb speaker has a maximum luminosity of 360 lumens and comes with an integrated wireless 40mm full range 2W speaker. The bulb can be easily controlled with a smartphone app called 'SongPal' for adjusting brightness of the bulb and volume of the speaker. There is also a dedicated remote that can be paired with the bulb via NFC. It connects both by Bluetooth 3.0 and by NFC remote control.

Sony LED light bulb speaker will be available in Japan starting May 23 and will be available via company's online store for 23,880 Japanese Yen ($199).
