Microsoft rebrands Xbox Music to Groove, Xbox Videos to Movies & TV


Microsoft has ditched the Xbox branding in its music and video apps for Windows 10. The Xbox Music will now be known as Groove, the Xbox Video app will have a simple name called 'Movies & TV'.

Groove packs the same functionality as Xbox Music but does have a interface that is faster than ever with easy to use menus and navigation controls. In the new app you can zoom in or out of different views, drag favorite tracks to playlist, hover over taskbar icon for playback controls and pin an album to the start menu. You can also choose between light or dark theme for the app depending on your mood or pick accent color. With built-in OneDrive integration, you can access you content across your favorite devices. The Groove app will be availeble for Windows devices, Xbox and the web. It will be coming soon to Android and iOS devices.

There is also a subscription service for $9.99/month or $99/year for  for premium ad-free listening experience. You can get complete access to stream and download music from Windows store which has over 40 million tracks. Subscribers can also create radio stations based on their favorite songs, albums and artists. Existing Xbox Music subscribers will get migrated to Groove automatically.

Xbox Videos in Windows 10 will be simply called 'Movies & TV'. You can add your personal collection of videos to the app and even play they. Microsoft has added support for .MKV file. You can also buy or rent latest movies and TV shows in HD. You also get access to Weekly new releases, TV shows a day after it airs, deals and discounts. On Windows 10 devices, Xbox and web, you can watch a purchased or rented content on One device and pick up where you left off on another device.

Groove and Movies & TV will be part of Windows 10 Preview later this week. It will be available to Windows Insiders who are part of fast ring.
