Microsoft to sell Windows 10 on USB flash Drives
Last month a that Microsoft is planning to sell its Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro SKUs in retail stores via bootable USB flash drives. Now, Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 OS will be available on bootable USB drives.
Amazon has started taking pre-orders for Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro on USB flash drives at $119.99 (Rs. 7,600) and $199.99 (Rs. 12,000) accordingly. Amazon has listed Microsoft as the seller of the USB flash drives. Amazon will ship the device on August 30.
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that the company plans to sell Windows 10 on USB sticks, without needing a DVD Drive. "Windows 10 will be available on USB drives for purchase in retail channels shortly after launch. The suggested retail prices for Windows 10 in the US are the same as Windows 8.1." the spokesperson said. It will also be available via other retailers including the Microsoft store.
Microsoft is rolling out Windows 10 on July 29, so why the Amazon shipment date is set to August 30? Microsoft's Gabriel Aul, Engineering General Manager for Operating System Group, earlier said that though Windows 10 would be hitting the market on July 29 in phases and not everyone will be able to download the OS on that day. This indicates that the new machine with pre-loaded with Windows 10 and the USB flash drives will be available shortly after the launch.
