Sony's $399 PlayStation VR arrives October 13


Sony at GDC 2016 announced that its PlayStation VR headset will be available in October, without revealing an exact date. Now at E3 2016, the company announced the PS VR headset will go on sale on October 13 for $399.

Sony also promised that over 50 games titles will be available to play in VR by the end of the year. These include big games such as Final Fantasy XV, Resident Evil (coming in January), X-Wing VR Mission for Star Wars: Battlefront, Batman: Arkham VR and others.

The Sony PS VR bundle includes the headset, PlayRoom VR game, Earplugs, A breakout box with additional processing unit, cables and documentation. You'll have to purchase the Move camera and controllers required for tracking separately.


Sony also introduced a new controlled dubbed VR AIM, which promises 1-to-1 precision for VR first person shooter to make VR FPS games more immersive and engaging. The first game to support the controller will be Fairpoint.

The PS VR is Sony's answer to HTC's Vive and Oculus Rift that are priced higher $800 and $600 respectively. The specs include 5.7-inch OLED display running at 120Hz refresh rate and having a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 960 x 1080 per eye. The field of view comes in at right around 100 degrees with latency less than 18ms.
