BlackBerry DTEK60 is now official carrying $499 price tag


BlackBerry has officially announced its third Android smartphone, with the launch of the high-end DTEK60. It is the successor of DTEK50 and offer better specs and features. It is also BlackBerry's second high-end Android phone after Priv, but overall the third smartphone in BlackBerry's Android portfolio.

Similar to DTEK50, the DTEK60 is based on a reference design of the TCL 950 and Alcatel Idol 4s. TCL is a Chinese company which owns several brand including Alactel, and was also responsible for manufacturing DTEK50 which is based on Alcatel Idol 4. However, the phone does come with BlackBerry's exclusive security features.

The specs of DTEK60 is no secret, as it was already revealed earlier revealed by BlackBerry. The phone features 5.5-inch Quad HD display, Snapdragon 821 processor with Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage and microSD card slot for storage expansion.

The camera department includes a 21MP main camera with dual-LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and 4K video recording and 8MP front facing camera. Connectivity duties are handled by 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and USB Type-C. It is fueled by 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. A rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and customizable side button completes the spec sheet.

For software, the DTEK60 will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and BlackBerry says it is working with Google on Nougat upgrade. BlackBerry says that the DTEK60 is the most secure Android phones compared to other thanks to its secure bootloader, Hardware Root of Trust, DTEK app, and quick updates for security patches. It also comes pre-loaded with BlackBerry’s suite of productivity apps, such as the Hub, Calendar, and keyboard.

The DTEK60 is priced at $499 (Rs. 35,000) and is available from BlackBerry's website starting today in US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands
