KGI analyst confirms Samsung Galaxy S8 specs, predicts lower sales than predecessor


The rumor mill has been running wild lately, about Samsung's upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Now renowned KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has a good track record of calling Apple product plans, has revealed some details of Samsung's Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Most of the details he has revealed corroborates with earlier leaks.

Kuo in his note revealed that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will feature 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screen with dual-curved OLED display bearing WQHD+ (2960 x 2400 pixels) resolutions.

The Galaxy S8/S8+ will be powered by either Qualcomm processor or Eynos processed depending on market. Accordong to Kuo, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 powered Galaxy S8/S8+ will be sold in the U.S, Japan and China, whereas, the Exynos 8895 powered version will be for Europe and the rest of the Asian market including India.

There will be two RAM models as well, one with 4GB RAM, which will be sold in most of the market, while Korea and China will get 6GB RAM, as customer in these two markets are particularly sensitive to DRAM specs.

He also confirms that Galaxy S8 will sport a single-lens 12MP camera at the rear and 8MP selfie camera. Kuo says, Samsung did not adopt to the dual-camera technology, which has become a trend now, is due to the cost and immature dual-camera ISP design.

Talking about previously rumored specs, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will feature all-screen design with very slim bezels, waterproof body, microSD card slot, dual-SIM slot, rear mounted fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port, and Microsoft's Continuum like feature (connect Galaxy S8 to monitor for a PC like experience).

Lastly, Kuo predicts the shipment split between Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will be 6:4, and Samsung will ship about 40 million to 45 million units of Galaxy S8 during 2017, which is lower than the 52 million Galaxy S7 units shipped last year. Samsung has already confirmed that Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will be unveiled on March 29, and according to Kuo, the phone will hit the market on April 21, meanwhile, the reliable tipster Evan Blass claims that the phones will be released on April 28.
