Android Nougat now runs on 7.1 percent of active devices

Google has released its monthly Android distribution data for the month of April. The figures were collected during a 7-day period ending on May 2, 2017 and were compiled from Android devices that accessed Play Store.

As expected Android Nougat is slowly growing (v7.0 - 6.6% / v7.1 - 0.5%) and is now present on 7.1 percent of active devices, up 2.2 percent compared to last month's data of 4.9 percent.

Increase in the adoption rate of Android Nougat means older Android version figures are dropping slowly. Interestingly, Android Marshmallow and Android Lollipop's share remain the same as last month at 31.2 percent and 32 percent respectively.

However in case of Android Lollipop, v5.0 is running on 8.7 percent active devices, and v5.1 at 23.3 percent. For comparison, last month Android Lollipop v5 and v5.1 had a share of 9 percent and 23 percent respectively. Based on the latest figures, Lollipop is running on the majority of active Android devices.

The outdated Android KitKat is now present on 18.8 percent active devices, compared to last months 20 percent, down 1.2 percent. Jelly Bean has 9.1 percent share of the pie, down one percent, compared to last month's 10.1 percent.

According to the latest data it appears that Android KitKat and Jelly Bean users have upgraded to a Nougat powered smartphone (Nougat gain 2.2 percent/ KitKat-Jelly Bean combined lose 2.2 percent).

The least used Android versions are Ice Cream Sandwhich and Gingerbread with 0.8 percent and one percent share of the pie respectively.
