Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is now official

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S8 Active in the U.S. It's the rugged version of Galaxy S8, and the South Korean tech giant touts it to be the  "toughest Galaxy smartphone yet," boasting rugged features like military grade case, shatter resistant display, dust and water resistance, metal frame and bumper to protect the device against shock, abrasion, tilting or twisting. The back cover also has a rugged, tough texture for a secure grip.

The Galaxy S8 Active features 5.8-inch shatter resistant Quad HD Super AMOLED display, with 18.5:9 screen ratio, same as Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, but lacks the edge-to-edge Infinity display, due to the added durability. Also it gets a bigger 4000mAh battery, instead of 3500mAh found of Galaxy S8+. Otherwise, the specs are similar to Galaxy S8 & S8+.

It comes with Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, 12MP f/1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera, 8MP front camera, rear mounted fingerprint scanner and Bixby. It boots Android Nougat out of the box, and the color options include Meteor Gray and Titanium Gold.

The Galaxy S8 Active has been priced at $850 (or AT&T Next Plan: $28 per month for 30 months) and will be available starting August 11 exclusively through AT&T stores across U.S. It will also be available for non-AT&T customers later.
