Facebook Messenger now lets you send and receive photos at 4K resolution

Facebook has made a small but significant change to Messenger. Now you'll be able to send and receive photos in Messenger in much higher quality than before. Previously the limit was 2K no matter what the resolution was.

With the latest update, you can now send and receive photos at 4K resolution or up to 4096 x 4096 pixels per image, which is the highest quality many smartphones support.

Even with 4K resolution, the photos will be sent quickly as it was before automatically. Also, even after zooming, the 4K photo is much sharper and clearer, so you can see every detail.

Announcing the new feature Facebook said "We heard that people want to send and receive high resolution photos in Messenger — and considering people send more than 17 billion photos through Messenger every month — we're making your conversations richer, sharper, and better than ever"

The 4K photos support has started rolling out to Android and iPhone users in the the US, Canada, France, Australia, the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea, and Facebook says it will come to more countries in the coming weeks. It's worth mentioning that 4K resolution photo sharing is not supported on Messenger Lite.
