Xiaomi releases kernel sources for Mi Max 3

Bit by bit, Xiaomi has improved its pace of releasing kernel source code. There was a time when the company took over a year to share the kernel sources, but for the last few devices, such as the Mi A2 and the Mi 8 SE, Xiaomi has improved itself and posted kernel sources in a span of weeks. The Mi Max 3 was announced in July, and Xiaomi has just uploaded the kernel sources for the device.

For the unfamiliar, kernel source codes are important for third-party development which includes custom ROMs, recoveries, mods, and custom kernels. The Android kernel is licensed under GPL v2, which makes it mandatory to share any modifications made to it. Xiaomi is, therefore, obligated to release the kernel sources.

The kernel source code for the Mi Max 3 can be found here. Official builds of TWRP are already available for the Mi Max 3, and a working build of Google Camera mod can also be found on the XDA forums of the device. The Mi Max 3 supports Project Treble out of the box, which means that a user can flash a Generic System Image after unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom recovery.
