Nokia 7 Plus kernel source code is now available for download

HMD Global has been impeccable with software updates but the Finnish company hasn't been too supportive of third-party development on its devices. It took HMD a year and a half to begin sharing kernel sources for its devices. Even after the kernel source code was made available, HMD didn't allow bootloader unlocking for a long time. It was only three months ago that the company opened bootloader unlocking with the Nokia 8.

HMD Global has been ridiculously slow with the release of kernel sources, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that the source code for the nine-month-old Nokia 7 Plus is being released now. The Nokia 7 Plus was among the first smartphones to be updated to Pie and the kernel source code is based on that (kernel source code is of release 3.22C).

You can download the 137MB kernel source code from Nokia's website. The custom development on the Nokia 7 Plus is still restricted as there is no way to unlock the bootloader. We hope HMD Global improves this and expands bootloader unlocking to other devices.
